MIGA and Deutsche Bank Launch EUR 1 Billion Trade Finance Guarantee Platform

MIGA has partnered with Deutsche Bank AG to create a EUR 1 billion platform to increase access to trade finance in frontier and emerging markets. Under this framework, MIGA will provide guarantees to protect against the risk of non-payment in trade transactions by eligible state-owned banks. The platform focuses on trade transactions in key World Bank Group priority areas that support jobs, including IDA and FCS countries, SMEs, health, agriculture, and water.

The Public Investment Fund (PIF), Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund, has signed two MoUs totaling up to $9.5 billion with IFC and MIGA. Under the agreements, a $6 billion MoU with IFC focuses on exploring co-financing opportunities for eligible projects across PIF’s portfolio. A separate $3.5 billion MoU with MIGA will explore opportunities for MIGA to provide credit-enhancement guarantees supporting the financing activities of PIF portfolio companies investing in the Middle East and North Africa.

Guarantees Back $785 Million Loan for Kazakhstan Road Rehabilitation

MIGA has issued guarantees to Standard Chartered, J.P. Morgan, and Commerzbank for a $785 million loan to the Development Bank of Kazakhstan. The proceeds will be on-lent to the national road operator to finance maintenance and repair works on roads connecting major cities and border crossings, improving connectivity along the Middle Corridor and supporting an estimated 25,000 jobs a year.

World Bank Group Opens Office in Madrid

The World Bank Group has opened a new office in Madrid to deepen its partnership with Spain in mobilizing private capital for emerging markets. Spain is one of MIGA’s top investor countries, with over $5 billion in guarantees backing more than 20 projects. The new office provides a single-entry point to expand this collaboration and mobilize further private capital.

MIGA Guarantees Support Sustainable Steel and Renewable Energy in TΓΌrkiye

VakΔ±fBank has secured $250 million in trade finance facilities guaranteed by MIGA, with J.P. Morgan acting as the sole funding bank. The facility, which is 95% covered by a MIGA Trade Finance Guarantee, will finance the import of recyclable steel scrap used in Electric Arc Furnaces, as well as wind turbines and related components to advance TΓΌrkiye’s energy transition.

IMPACT IN NUMBERS

A debt-for-development swap is expanding access to education in Angola, helping prepare the country's youth for the jobs of the future. Backed by World Bank and MIGA guarantees, Angola is securing financing at more favorable terms to prepay higher-cost commercial debt, freeing up significant budget resources.
