Every Link in the Chain Is a Cyber Opening

Every business has some degree of automation going today.

There aren't cash registers and cashiers anymore. There's a POS system, payment processor, and someone (often the consumer) scanning a product into the system.

All of this automation is creating a chain of cyber vulnerabilities that starts with a product coming from somewhere, and ending up at the point of sale, or delivered to wherever the consumer is.

Each link is a place where a cyber criminal could break into the chain, find data that they can use, hide code that can invade other systems, or potentially divert part of a shipment to the location they want, rather than the customer.

If you're reading after Barry Rabkin, analyst and author, you know that this is the point that he's been making for the last few years, that the interconnected nature of modern commerce is making certain risks exponentially more difficult to insure against.

Cyber risks aren't just an emerging issue anymore. They're totally ingrained in our society, our economy, and our risk profile.
