Subscribe Daily Variety December 01, 2025 The box office had a feast over Thanksgiving weekend thanks to "Zootopia 2" and "Wicked: For Good." Disney's "Zootopia" sequel opened to $158 million domestically and a massive $559 million globally, which is the fourth biggest opening weekend of all time. It also takes the record for the largest launch for an animated movie in history. Rebecca Rubin has all the records broken by "Zootopia 2" below. While fans flocked to theaters for "Zootopia," many also stayed at home to watch the first episodes of the fifth and final season of "Stranger Things" on Netflix. Adam B. It was also the second-highest Thanksgiving weekend opening ever after last year's "Moana 2" made $139 million over the traditional three days and $225 million over the full five days.
