| | | | | | | How to Survive Your Office Holiday Party Without Regrets |
|
| We're officially entering office holiday party season, and that means lots of fun but also...sometimes uncomfortable situations. Here's your survival guide for getting through it with zero next-day cringe.
How to Handle Awkward Situations
The creepy coworker. You don't owe anyone your time or comfort. Be direct: "I'm not interested in this conversation" or "That's inappropriate." Then walk away. If they keep going, say loudly enough for others to hear: "I've asked you to stop. This is making me uncomfortable." Don't whisper, don't soften it, and don't worry about being rude. They already crossed the line. If it continues, report it to HR.
The overly intoxicated person. Not your circus, not your monkeys. Unless they're a close friend or in actual danger, let someone else handle it. If you do need to step in, get help from a manager or offer to call them a ride. Don't try to manage a drunk colleague solo.
The racist or offensive person. You have options. You can disengage and walk away. You can say something direct like, "That's not okay" and leave. Or you can report it to HR after the fact. What you don't have to do is sit there and tolerate it. Your comfort matters more than keeping the peace.
The secret office romance. If it's two single colleagues who seem into each other, mind your business. Unless it directly affects your work, pretend you didn't see anything.
But if you witness something that crosses ethical lines. like a manager with their direct report, a married person cheating, or a clear power imbalance being exploited—that's different. You're not obligated to report it, but you're also not wrong if you do. Trust your gut. Just know that once you report it, you can't un-ring that bell.
Tips for Your Best Holiday Party Self Alternate water between drinks Eat a real meal before you arrive Wear something comfortable that won't make you self-conscious (you know in case you decide to do your party trick and dance the worm) Don't say anything you wouldn't want repeated to HR Don't feel pressured to drink if you don't want to—anyone who pushes is the problem, not you Know when to leave (usually right before things get messy)
Most importantly: have fun! You're a professional, and even if you do something slightly awkward, it'll make a good story. Most people will forget about it by January anyway.
If you wake up with hangover anxiety, take a breath. Chances are it wasn't as bad as you think. If you genuinely crossed a line, keep your apology short: "I'm sorry about last night. That wasn't appropriate." Then move on.
The office holiday party is supposed to be fun. Show up, be friendly, don't get sloppy, and leave before things get weird. |

| | | | Why I'm Challenging You to Start Your Fitness Journey in December |
|
| Oof! The holidays are stressful and very, very inviting to doing two things well: eating and drinking.
Before I began my fitness journey, you couldn't have convinced me to do anything health-related during December. GET REAL.
My mindset was very, "I'll get started in January. Let me enjoy being fat for now." |
|
| | Back in Dec 2014, my first time every doing a 21 day challenge. It was so hard! |
|
| | Eventually, it became my identity and looked forward to "Fitmas". |
|
| That changed once I joined an online accountability group and began coaching other busy women like me. I actually looked forward to running groups in December, and my favorite was "21 Days of Fitmas" because...hear me out!
Because if you can incorporate fitness and better eating habits during the "hardest," most caloric, boozy part of the year, the hard part is over. It's like being thrown in the deep end.
When you commit during this time, you teach yourself so much. You learn to trust yourself. You change the narrative.
Think about it: if you can make healthy choices while surrounded by cookies, cocktails, and chaos, what can't you do? January suddenly becomes easy mode.
A Fitness Challenge Doesn't Have to Be Complicated
A 21-day fitness challenge doesn't require overhauling your entire life. It comes down to two simple things: Move your body daily Make better nutrition choices
That's it. Not perfect choices. Just better.
Make movement easier: Do 5 minutes of walking. Park farther away when shopping. Go for a run when you're stressed. Do a workout while you watch a holiday movie. Grab a friend and try out a new class.
Movement doesn't have to mean an hour at the gym.
Make nutrition mindful: Pack a snack for holiday shopping. Opt for lower-calorie options when you can. Bring a veggie plate to the party. Drink a protein shake before the party. Make high-protein recipes. Make a mocktail instead of reaching for wine. Use smaller plates at the buffet line. Swap soda water or Zevia for sugary drinks.
It doesn't have to be complicated. It just has to be a little better than before.
Don't Fall Into the "Screw It" Trap
Don't fall into the rabbit hole of "Well, it's the holidays, so screw it. I'll start in January!"
That mindset keeps you stuck. It tells you that you're only capable of being healthy when conditions are perfect. Conditions are never perfect.
Instead, take the timeline into your own hands. You're worthy of being the type of person who makes healthy choices always—not because you're punishing yourself, but because you feel better when you fuel your body with movement and good nutrition.
Be the Girl Who Does 21 Days of Fitmas
What if instead of waiting for January, you became the girl who commits now? The one who doesn't need perfect conditions to take care of herself?
You don't need a clean slate or the calendar to flip. You just need to decide you're the kind of person who shows up for herself, even during the busiest, most indulgent time of year.
I've made you a special TA 21-Day Fitmas Calendar to help you do exactly that. Whether you're a beginner or more advanced, there's a daily challenge and fitness plan designed for you.
Be that girl. The one who finishes December stronger than she started. The one who makes January a continuation, not a restart.
You've got this. And I'm here cheering you on every step of the way. |
