Finding Pictures: Discover Gilded Age Treasures in the Richard Morris Hunt CollectionWednesday, December 17th, 2025 Let's dive into Gilded Age (1870s-1890s) treasures with historian Sam Watters, who recently published two books on Richard Morris Hunt (1827-1895), after conducting extensive research at the Library for the last decade. Hunt was America's premier 19th-century architect, who worked on over 240 projects, including the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty and such residences for the Vanderbilt families as the Biltmore. Watters' first book, "The Gilded Life of Richard Morris Hunt" won awards from the Victorian Society in America and he just wrote his second, "Richard Morris Hunt: The Collector." The webinar includes two videos of Watters introducing the Hunt Collection, his research experience, and advice on how to use the Library's diverse and large collection to efficiently research. Mari Nakahara, Curator of Architecture, Design, and Engineering who assisted Watters with his book project will introduce her Hunt research guide. Watters will participate in the Q&A live session.
