| | | INTERIOR DESIGN | Hire an AI interior designer | | This week, I'm moving into a new apartment, and though I'd like to think I have some interior design skills, I'm no expert. And before I go buying things I don't need, don't look good, or don't fit, it'd be nice to have a little help. | The problem? Good interior designers cost real money, and maybe you don't have the time or budget to hire one. Maybe you're planning to buy a lot of second-hand items (or already have the furniture) and you need to make it work in a space that wasn't designed for it. | Whether you're downsizing, working with what you've got, or finally having space for that reading nook, AI can help. Sure, there are tools specifically built for this (like RoomGPT, Homestyler, and DecorAI) but you can also use ChatGPT or Claude to get legit design advice. | Here's how to do it: | Upload a photo of your space | Both Claude and ChatGPT can process images. So: take a clear, well-lit photo of your room. Try to get as much of the space as possible. | In Claude: Start a new chat, click the + icon, and upload your image. In ChatGPT: Open a new chat, hit the image icon, and drop in your photo.
| Then ask something like: "Can you help me figure out the best layout for this room? I want a cozy, mid-century modern vibe but I don't want to block the windows." | Give smart, specific prompts | Treat AI like a smart-but-new-to-your-life design intern. The more context you give, the better the results. Mention what you already have, what you love, what you hate, and what you're working around. | Prompts to try: | "What paint color would make this north-facing room feel warmer?" "I have a 72-inch couch, a round dining table, and a credenza. How would you arrange them here?" "Suggest small-space storage options that don't look like dorm furniture." "Can I pull off a Scandinavian look with a leather couch and brick walls?"
| You can even paste in measurements, furniture links, or your Pinterest board. Also, if you have a good imagination, these tools are better at text outputs than visual ones. You can describe a room, for example, the measurements, what you want it to do with it, etc., and it may be able to better TELL you what you're looking for instead of SHOWING you. | Pull in your Pinterest board | Already have a mood board? Great. Drop the link in your prompt:"Here's my Pinterest board. Based on this style, what should I change about my current setup?" | This gives the AI a reference point for tone, palette, and layout. It's like handing it your design vision and saying, "Make this work with my actual life." | Ask where to buy (or find a dupe) | Once you get advice (like "a boucle armchair" or "a vintage-looking rug in muted terracotta") follow up with: | "Where can I buy a version of this for under $300?" "Any dupes for this style on Wayfair, IKEA, or Facebook Marketplace?"
| Claude is strong on aesthetic suggestions; ChatGPT can give you shopping links or keywords to search, making shopping suer easy. | How to use RoomGPT (a paid tool) | I was curious, so I tried RoomGPT (one of the tools mentioned above that focuses solely on interior design). I thought the way it kept the original image of the room was great, but it still didn't quite get it right. Also, you only get one credit before you have to pay, so not totally sure it's worth it. | Note: Honestly, I found that none of these are 100% at creating the best visuals. Instead, they are better for a quick mockup or to give you an IDEA of how something COULD look. | Now you can try before you buy | AI won't tell you to knock down a wall or spend $8,000 on a statement chair. But it will help you stop rearranging the same three pieces of furniture every Sunday out of quiet desperation or buying a cart full of furniture and decor that you may end up bringing back. | Your move, HGTV - HL |

| | | THAT'S ACTUALLY WILD | | Around 1.6 million twins are born every year, the highest count ever. That's 1 in every 42 babies, with most twin births now happening in Africa and Asia. The rise comes from older motherhood + wider use of fertility treatments like IVF. |
