Plus, good news from our pacifier testing
| | | We know that many parents are looking to stretch their holiday shopping dollars this year, as tariffs have raised prices for baby gear and other everyday essentials. And as a nonprofit focused on safety and quality, CR would never send you on a wild holiday goose chase for the trendy toy that's out of stock in every aisle in town, much less the AI-enabled pal that'll teach your toddler French.
Instead, what CR recommends are toys designed for open-ended, repeat play, developmentally targeted (and safe) for specific ages, that can be passed down from sibling to sibling. We believe that's what offers the best value for your toy shopping budget, and experts we spoke to agree.
To develop our toy guides for young children, we consulted with early child development experts, toy designers, toy store owners, and pediatricians, and asked parents raising kids of multiple ages to curate lists of the best toys for babies, 1-year-olds, 2-year-olds, 3-year-olds, and 4-year-olds. There's a wide range of prices represented, from big holiday gifts to stocking stuffers, birthday presents, and "just because" toys.
We hope these toy guides help simplify your holiday shopping for the little ones on your list—and maybe spark some joyful memories of classic toys you loved as a kid.
Wishing you and your family everything merry and bright,
